Discussion:
[lm-sensors] Fwd: The sad state of lm-sensors.org

Hello All,

The http://lm-sensors.org/ website is unreachable from many months
now, and as far as I can guess, it will not be brought up any time
soon.

I think it's time to move the old svn to github (gitlab?) and open a
website there.

Importing the old svn is a really simple process and I'm offering to
volunteer the migration and setup of the new website.

Obviously, we may not use the pull request mechanism, but rely instead
on the old manual way carried up by the project maintainer.

What do you think?

Sincerely, Angelo

Hi Jean,
Hi Guenter,
The repositories are mirrored at https://github.com/groeck/i2c-tools and
https://github.com/groeck/lm-sensors. We are in the process of finding
final homes.
Ok, could I suggest to register a new lm-sensors entity in github and
https://github.com/lm-sensors/lm-sensors
I think Guenter has such a plan.
Great!
https://github.com/lm-sensors/i2c-tools
I object to that one, for i2c-tools has nothing to do with lm-sensors.
It was hosted on the same site only for historical reasons. In practice
it is now maintained and used by a completely different set of people.
Ok, so who cares about i2c-tools?
Is there a discussion somewhere?
Again, I'm offering to volunteer with the transition to a new location
if necessary.

I think we should act, opening a new gihub repository and setting up a
new website it's not a tremendous amount of work, I can do it in a
couple of weeks of my free time. Obviously, you should endorse me!

I think not having a website and an institutional home it's a problem
considering modern tools and free offering we have.

Sincerely, Angelo

Hi Jean,
Just a friendly remainder to reignite the discussion!
For hwmon:

New mailing list:
linux-***@vger.kernel.org (exists)
New project web site:
hwmon.wiki.kernel.org (in process)

I'll try to get the new mailing list archived at gmane.kernel.org.
I also requested a patchwork project at patchwork.kernel.org.

The git for the lm-sensors project is still on my TODO list.
We'll also have to find a home for the lm-sensors user space
documentation (unless we hijack hwmon.wiki.kernel.org, or
ask for a separate lm-sensors.wiki.kernel.org and hope that
it gets approved).

Side note: Please don't top-post.

Thanks,
Guenter

Any news for i2c-tools? If anyone interested I'm willing to help the
transition to a new location.
